Atherton Bikes confirms factory fire; nobody injured

Atherton Bikes has confirmed a fire at its headquarters and factory in Machynlleth, with nobody injured and everyone safe. In a statement issued on 11 October, the company said it expects disruption to production and deliveries, although the extent of the damage remains unclear.

The company praised Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service for its response, saying firefighters had brought the situation under control.

“We are devastated to confirm that there has been a fire at Atherton Bikes HQ and factory in Machynlleth,” the statement said.

“Most importantly, we can confirm that nobody was injured and everyone is safe.”

Production and deliveries expected to be disrupted

Atherton acknowledged the uncertainty facing customers with bikes on order. The company is still assessing the damage and has not yet confirmed how production schedules or individual deliveries will be affected.

“We anticipate disruption to production and deliveries, but at this stage it’s too early to understand the full impact,” it said.

Affected customers will be contacted directly when more information becomes available, with further updates also shared with the wider community. The statement did not give a cause for the fire or a timetable for production to resume.

Signed by Dan, Gee and Rachel Atherton and chief executive Dan Brown, the message also thanked everyone who had offered support and asked people to keep staff and the wider team in their thoughts.

The statement followed initial updates on Atherton Bikes’ Instagram account earlier on 11 October.
