FOCUS has refreshed its core eMTB line-up for model year 2027, simplifying the names of the JAM, SAM and THRON while changing specifications, integration, colours and prices. The announcement on the FOCUS 2027 eMTB range was made on 19 August 2026, and the important point for UK buyers is that this is an update to proven platforms rather than a clean-sheet frame launch.
The familiar superscript “²” is disappearing from new electric mountain-bike names. JAM² becomes JAM, SAM² becomes SAM and THRON² becomes THRON as FOCUS begins a wider naming change across its 2027 and 2028 ranges. Trim levels are also being simplified so buyers can understand where a model sits without decoding a long string of suffixes.
What has changed on the FOCUS 2027 eMTB range
FOCUS says the geometry and suspension kinematics remain unchanged. That means the update does not promise a radically different ride; it concentrates on cleaner frame integration, revised component packages, new colourways and lower pricing. For owners of the current generation, that is reassuring. A 2025 or 2026 JAM does not suddenly become obsolete because the logo on the next bike loses a square.
The most visible JAM change is the integration of Bosch’s Kiox 400C display into a recessed section of the top tube on selected models. That should leave the cockpit cleaner and place ride data where it is easier to glance at without adding a large handlebar display. SAM remains the more gravity-focused option, with the 2027 update concentrating on parts and value rather than altering its stable enduro character. THRON continues as the more touring-oriented trail eMTB. Bosch Performance Line CX and the 120Nm update
The new JAM and SAM models continue with the fifth-generation Bosch Performance Line CX smart system. Compatible bikes can use Bosch’s Performance Upgrade 2.0 through the Flow app, allowing the motor to be configured for up to 120Nm of torque and 600% support. FOCUS lists all JAM and SAM bikes from model year 2025 among the compatible machines, along with selected THRON and utility models.
That setting is optional rather than free performance with no consequences. FOCUS itself notes that using maximum assistance consumes battery more quickly and can accelerate wear through the drivetrain. More torque can help on a steep technical climb, but tyre grip, gearing and rider control still determine whether that force reaches the ground usefully. 600Wh or 800Wh batteries
Depending on the model and specification, the updated range is offered with 600Wh or 800Wh Bosch batteries. The smaller pack can keep the complete bike more manageable and is likely to suit riders whose normal trail-centre loop lasts two or three hours. An 800Wh battery gives more margin for winter, repeated climbing and long days, but it also adds mass that has to be accelerated, cornered and stopped.
Battery size should therefore be chosen around the ride rather than treated as a league table. Someone regularly returning with half an 800Wh pack unused may enjoy the feel of a 600Wh build more. FOCUS says it has reduced prices significantly on the FOCUS 2027 eMTB range without cutting component quality. In a market where current bikes are frequently discounted, that matters more than a cosmetic refresh. A realistic list price gives the new range a better chance against heavily reduced 2026 stock and makes model comparisons less dependent on a short-lived sale.
The exact UK RRPs and dealer availability were not fully live across the FOCUS UK site when this article was drafted, so we are not converting European prices or presenting them as confirmed British figures. This is a sensible update rather than a launch built around novelty. FOCUS has left the ride characteristics alone, improved the way the bikes are presented and integrated, and attacked the part of the specification sheet every buyer notices: price. The result should be easier to understand in a showroom and more competitive against discounted rivals.
The unresolved question is UK value. Once confirmed British prices and exact build sheets are available, the new JAM and SAM need comparing with the strongest Bosch trail bikes already below £5,000.
