How Electric MTB UK makes money, and how we stay independent

Electric MTB UK is an independent publication covering electric mountain bikes, riding kit, and the vehicles and accessories that help riders get to the trails. Running a journalism-led website costs money (hosting, travel, photography, tools, insurance, and time). To fund the work while keeping coverage free to read, we use a mix of revenue streams, with clear rules designed to protect editorial independence. Here you can learn about how Electric MTB UK makes money.

Affiliate links

Some of our articles contain affiliate links. If you click one of these links and go on to purchase a product, Electric MTB UK may earn a commission from the retailer. You do not pay more as a result. Affiliate revenue helps us fund testing, long-form reviews and buyer’s guides, and ongoing updates. Importantly, affiliate relationships do not determine which products we cover or how we rank them.

Advertising

We may sell display advertising (for example, banner placements) and commercial packages around key content areas (such as transport, racks, vans and pick-ups used by riders). Advertising is kept separate from editorial decision-making. Advertisers do not get to approve, edit, or influence our independent reviews, opinions, scoring, or rankings.

Sponsored content and paid partnerships

Occasionally we may publish sponsored content or “presented by” buyer’s guides. When we do, we label it clearly and prominently so readers can understand the commercial relationship before engaging with the content. Sponsored content will be marked as Sponsored, Advertisement, Partner content, or similar plain-language labelling.

Product loans, test samples and press bikes

Brands and retailers may loan bikes or products for review, or supply test samples. Where relevant, we’ll note this in the article. A loan does not guarantee coverage, and it never guarantees positive coverage. We aim to be fair, accurate, and specific about strengths and weaknesses.

Editorial independence and integrity

Our editorial team decides what we test, what we publish, and how we rate products. We do not accept payment in exchange for positive reviews. We also avoid allowing commercial considerations (including affiliate commission rates) to influence rankings or recommendations. When we recommend a product, it is because we believe it fits the rider need we’re describing.

How we choose products for buyer’s guides

Buyer’s guides are created using a mix of hands-on experience (where possible), first-party testing, verified specifications, and a clear set of selection criteria (performance, durability, safety, aftersales support, and suitability for UK riding). We periodically update guides to reflect new launches, stock availability, and genuine improvements.

Corrections and updates

If we publish an error, we correct it. If a product changes materially (spec, price structure, or availability), we may update our coverage. When you spot something that doesn’t look right, you can contact us and we will review it.
