Jagwire targets brake heat with new Pro LR3 rotors and Elite cooling-fin pads

Jagwire has introduced two new braking products aimed at riders who put serious heat into their brakes, with the launch of the Jagwire Pro LR3 Disc Brake Rotor and Jagwire Elite Disc Brake Pads.

The new parts are not being marketed as e-bike-specific, but they are clearly relevant to riders using heavier bikes, riding longer descents or spending time on steeper terrain where braking consistency matters. For eMTB riders, especially those on full-power bikes or regular bike park laps, heat management can quickly become one of the biggest differences between brakes that feel sharp at the top of a trail and brakes that start to fade halfway down.

Jagwire says the Pro LR3 rotor has been developed around improved heat management, consistent braking performance and durability in demanding riding conditions. The Elite pads add cooling fins and a graphene-enhanced friction compound, with the aim of reducing operating temperatures while maintaining reliable bite and control.

Pro LR3 rotors get two-piece construction and sizes up to 220mm

The Jagwire Pro LR3 Disc Brake Rotor uses a two-piece design, with an aluminium spider and a separate stainless steel braking track. That construction is designed to save weight compared with a full steel rotor, while still giving the braking surface needed for heat resistance and consistent stopping power.

Rotor size is one of the most important brake upgrade decisions for mountain bike and eMTB riders. A larger rotor gives the brake more leverage and more surface area to deal with heat, which is why 200mm-plus rotors have become increasingly common on longer-travel eMTBs, downhill bikes and aggressive trail bikes.

Jagwire will offer the Pro LR3 in 140mm, 160mm, 180mm, 203mm and 220mm sizes, with both 6-bolt and Centre Lock fitments available. The 220mm rotor uses a thicker 2.0mm construction, while the smaller sizes listed use a 1.8mm thickness.

Claimed weights for the 6-bolt rotors range from 98g for the 140mm version to 208g for the 220mm option. Centre Lock versions are slightly heavier, with claimed weights from 111g to 221g depending on size.

A useful detail is the inclusion of a wear indicator, designed to show when the rotor is due for replacement. That is a small feature, but one that makes sense for riders who put in high mileage or ride in gritty UK conditions where brake parts can wear faster than expected.

Elite pads add cooling fins and graphene-enhanced compound

Alongside the rotors, Jagwire has also launched its new Elite Disc Brake Pads. The headline feature is the use of integrated cooling fins, which are designed to help pull heat away from the pad during prolonged braking.

Jagwire also says the pads use a graphene-enhanced friction compound. The aim is to reduce operating temperatures while keeping braking power and consistency high. That is the important bit for riders: outright bite matters, but predictable braking matters more when you are dropping into steep trails, wet roots or repeated bike park runs.

The pads are available for a wide range of Shimano, Magura and SRAM brakes. MTB-relevant compatibility includes Shimano XTR, Deore XT, SLX and Deore four-piston and two-piston systems, as well as Magura MT8, MT4, MT4e and MT Trail rear fitments. SRAM options include Code, G2 and Guide families, alongside several road and AXS HRD applications.

That broad compatibility should make the Elite pads useful for riders upgrading existing brakes rather than replacing a full system. For many eMTB riders, a sensible brake improvement can be as simple as fitting fresh high-quality pads and moving to a larger rotor, rather than buying entirely new calipers and levers.

Why this matters for eMTB riders

Although Jagwire is not positioning these parts as eMTB-specific, the use case makes sense. Modern eMTBs are heavier than analogue mountain bikes, they allow more repeated climbing and descending, and they often get ridden hard on terrain where brake temperature builds quickly.

That does not mean every eMTB rider needs 220mm rotors or cooling-fin pads. If you mainly ride flowing trail centre loops or local bridleways, standard rotors and good quality pads may be plenty. But for heavier riders, loaded bikes, long descents, steep natural trails or bike park sessions, brake heat is worth taking seriously.
