Reverse launches Machete stems, including a 35mm eMTB option

Reverse Components has introduced two Machete stems, with a 35mm single-crown version aimed at enduro, freeride and e-bike use. A separate 50mm direct-mount model serves dual-crown downhill and freeride forks.

The range was announced on 1 October. Both versions are offered in black or silver, with a stated European RRP of €159.90. That is not a confirmed UK retail price.

The single-crown version is the relevant one for most eMTBs

The Machete SC uses a 62mm-wide handlebar clamp and M5 bolts. Reverse says the stem is CNC-machined, finished and assembled in Germany, with stiffness and durability taking priority over a minimal weight figure.

It accepts a 35mm handlebar. Reverse’s separate D-2 shim provides the route to a 31.8mm bar, so riders should include the appropriate shim when pricing a build rather than assume one comes in the box.

The current product page lists a weight of 226g, with a stated tolerance of ±5 per cent. The launch release quoted 215g. Neither figure is an independently measured weight, and the difference is worth noting if you are comparing specifications.

What about the direct-mount model?

The direct-mount stem has a 50mm extension and a wider 70mm clamping zone. Its claimed weight is 175g. It is a different mounting format, not simply a longer alternative to the single-crown stem, so the two should not be treated as interchangeable.

What to consider before changing your stem

Our take: this is a purposeful option for a hard-ridden bike, rather than an obvious weight-saving upgrade. A stem also changes the rider’s relationship with the front wheel. Match the dimensions and mounting requirements to your bike before deciding that a shorter part will improve it.

Handlebar diameter is only one compatibility check. Available steerer length, the bar’s permitted clamp arrangement and the installation instructions also matter. A good fit for one cockpit does not automatically transfer to another.

The launch establishes the hardware and intended use; it does not demonstrate how the stem feels on a particular eMTB. Full details are available on Reverse’s Machete SC page and in the brand’s range announcement.
