Hope Avinox Speed Sensor Rotor with integrated wheel speed sensing slots

Hope launches £45 Avinox speed-sensor rotor for eMTBs

Hope Technology has launched a new brake disc for Avinox-equipped electric mountain bikes, with the wheel-speed sensor slots built directly into the rotor. Priced at £45 and available in three diameters, the Hope Avinox Speed Sensor Rotor removes the need for a separate speed-sensor ring on compatible bikes.

It might not be the flashiest upgrade for a full-power eMTB, but it addresses a practical issue as more bikes adopt the Avinox drive system: replacing a rear brake rotor isn’t always as straightforward as fitting a conventional six-bolt disc.

What’s different about Hope’s Avinox rotor?

The new disc is based on Hope’s existing one-piece Fixed Rotor, but the speed-sensing slots are machined directly into its centre. The Avinox system uses wheel-speed information as part of controlling motor assistance, so the rotor’s sensing arrangement matters as much as its braking surface when it comes to fitting a replacement.

By integrating those slots, Hope removes a separate ring from the installation. That should make the arrangement simpler when changing a worn disc or building a replacement wheel, although the manufacturer hasn’t provided independent performance comparisons. This is a compatibility and packaging development first; it shouldn’t be mistaken for a claim that braking power has suddenly increased.

Hope Avinox Speed Sensor Rotor specifications

  • Diameters: 200mm, 203mm and 220mm
  • Mount: Six-bolt
  • Thickness: 2.3mm
  • Construction: One-piece, laser-cut stainless steel
  • Speed sensing: Slots integrated into the disc
  • Hardware: Hub fitting hardware included
  • UK recommended retail price: £45

Hope says the thicker 2.3mm material improves stiffness, vibration damping and thermal stability. Those are useful attributes to pursue on an eMTB, particularly when a heavier bike and repeated descents put more heat into the brakes. They remain manufacturer claims rather than results from an Electric MTB UK test.

Will it fit every Avinox eMTB?

Not necessarily. The rotor is intended for Avinox-equipped bikes, but riders still need to check their existing rotor diameter, six-bolt hub fitment, caliper clearance for a 2.3mm disc and the bike maker’s approved speed-sensing arrangement. A Centre Lock hub won’t accept this six-bolt rotor without a suitable, approved solution, and changing disc diameter may require a different caliper adaptor.

That matters as Avinox motors spread beyond the original Amflow bikes. The new Canyon Spectral:ON CF 9 with Avinox M2S power is one example of the expanding market, while our guide to the best Avinox eMTBs compares bikes using the latest systems. Neither motor branding nor rotor diameter alone guarantees that an aftermarket disc is compatible with a particular build.

If you’re improving your current brakes, check pad fit and compound as well as the disc. Our eMTB brake pads guide explains why a suitable pad and rotor combination is more important than choosing parts on appearance or size alone.

Hope Avinox rotor price and availability

Hope lists a £45 UK RRP for the new Avinox Speed Sensor Rotor and says it can be ordered through local Hope dealers. The three announced sizes are 200mm, 203mm and 220mm; check the exact version and fitment before ordering.

For Avinox owners who want to replace a worn rear rotor without juggling a separate sensor ring, it’s a welcome addition to the growing aftermarket. The real test will be the range of bikes it fits and how well it holds up through wet, gritty UK riding.

Hope Avinox Speed Sensor Rotor: common questions

Does the Hope Avinox rotor work on Centre Lock hubs?

It is a six-bolt rotor, not a native Centre Lock model. Check your hub and any proposed adaptor with the relevant manufacturers before buying.

Is this the same as Hope’s separate e-bike speed sensor?

No. This new rotor has the Avinox speed-sensing slots integrated into the disc itself, rather than relying on a separate sensor ring.

What sizes and price are available?

Hope lists 200mm, 203mm and 220mm versions, each with a UK RRP of £45.
